Skaife Appeal Upheld!
7/1/2004 16:12 (Press Release) -
The Holden Racing Team's Mark Skaife tonight had his appeal upheld against the Stewards' decision at the last round of the 2003 V8 Supercar Championship round at Eastern Creek on November 30th.
The appeal began on the Thursday following Eastern Creek (December 4th) but was adjourned until tonight (Monday December 22nd.)
Skaife has been cleared of a charge of Careless Driving in the incident involving Stone Brothers' Racing's Russell Ingall, that resulted in Skaife's #1 HRT Commodore ending its race in a concrete wall, while the pair were dicing for 3rd place in Sunday's 250k race.
The CAMS Tribunal upheld Skaife's appeal, meaning the 5-time V8 Supercar/Australian Touring Car Champion has now been cleared of the incident and, regains the 30-point penalty imposed by the Race stewards at Eastern Creek, as well as having his $10,000 appeal fee returned to him.
"It wasn't about the 30 points." Skaife explained after tonight's successful appeal, "It was more about the principal of the issue and I am happy that the Tribunal found there was no case to answer in my alleged contribution to the crash with Ingall.
"The subsequent and much-publicised track side actions by me were
unfortunate and was something I have both apologised for and accepted the penalty handed out to me. However tonight's appeal result goes someway to explaining the extreme provocation I felt at the time.
"As far as the Holden Racing Team and I are concerned, the matter is now over with and I aim to put it behind me and concentrate on the 2004 season starting at the Australian F1 Grand Prix meeting in March." Skaife said.
