PMM: Morris to judge Bartercard Miss Indy model search
22/9/2003 23:39 (Press Release) -
V8 Supercar driver Paul Morris will break off his preparations for next month’s Bathurst 1000 race to join the judging team for this Sunday’s Bartercard Miss Indy Model Search regional grand final at Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
The 35-year-old will also have a replica of his Sirromet Wines Holden Commodore race car on display and take part in an autograph session for the public during the promotion, which will be held at Pub Mooloolaba at 23 Venning Street from 12-noon to 5pm.
Gold Coast-based Morris and his team are currently preparing for Bathurst on October 12, and the following V8 Supercar Championship races at the Lexmark Indy 300 at Surfers Paradise from October 24-26.
Morris said the Bartercard Miss Indy competition was now one of the traditional highlights of the Gold Coast event, and a valuable attraction in the off-track activities.
“Things such as Miss Indy add a lot of glamour and extra interest to the whole event, and it’s good for other areas such as the Sunshine Coast and elsewhere to get involved,” he said.
“As far as the judging this weekend is concerned, I think you’ve got to consider that being Miss Indy involves a lot more than just looking good.”
“There is also plenty of promotional work, so it’s important to assess personality and the ability to communicate with other people.”
Morris’ championship results this year have improved since he began racing a VY Commodore fitted with a Holden Motorsport engine in the past three rounds. He finished a season-best fourth at Queensland Raceway in July, and qualified third on two occasions.
“We’ve been getting more and more competitive since we started racing the new car and there’s no reason why we can’t do well at Bathurst, and in the races at Indy,” said Morris.
Morris will race at Bathurst with John Faulkner. The pair finished 13th in this month’s Sandown 500 endurance event, the traditional lead-up race to Bathurst, after being delayed by two ‘drive-through’ penalties after contact with other cars.
