PMM: Paul Morris pays tribute to Johnny Cash

16/9/2003 23:57 (Press Release) - V8 Supercar driver and long-time Johnny Cash fan Paul Morris paid a personal tribute to the late country music legend in last Sunday’s Betta Electrical Sandown 500 endurance motor race in Melbourne.

Morris, who has a large collection of Cash’s music, had a specially-made sticker saying ‘RIP The Man in Black’ on the driver door panel of the Sirromet Wines Holden Commodore he raced in the ninth round of the V8 Supercar championship with John Faulkner.

Cash was known as ‘The Man in Black’ after the title of one of his chart-topping songs, and because of the colour of his clothing when performing. He died in Nashville last Friday aged 71 from respiratory problems after a lengthy illness.

“I’ve been a Johnny Cash fan for as long as I can remember, with songs such as ‘I Walk the Line’ and ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ among my favourites,” said Morris.

The 35-year-old Gold Coast driver, known as ‘The Dude, finished 13th in the race at Sandown and is now preparing for the Bob Jane T-Marts Bathurst 1000 on October 12.
