DJR: Johnson blasts into top ten
13/9/2003 17:32 (Press Release) -
Shell Helix racer, Steve Johnson, qualified sixth in today's Top Ten Shootout for round nine of the 2003 V8 Supercar Championship Series at Sandown Raceway (Melbourne).
Under the threat of rain, Johnson took the #17 Falcon forward one place during a nail-biting Shootout session.
"It's a long race, and to be placed anywhere in the top ten is a strong position for the race. Sixth is fantastic," Steve Johnson said.
"We're not going to hose the competition. Now is about making steady improvements and stabilising."
"Steve did a great job out there," Johnson's co-driver, Warren Luff said.
"Hopefully we'll be able to get a good result for the team tomorrow."
The second of the Shell Helix Falcons qualified by team regular, Max Wilson, will start tomorrow's 500km race from 12th spot.
"We are still in a competitive position," Max Wilson said.
"Let's see what we can do in the race.
"I'm looking forward to getting some more miles in the car tomorrow," co-driver, David Brabham said.
"It's such a close series; it'll be a great race."
The Betta Electrical 500, the 2003 V8 Supercar Championship Series' ninth round will be contested over a 500km endurance race format on Sunday 14 September.
