DJR: Great day for Shell team
12/9/2003 22:00 (Press Release) -
Shell Helix Racing enjoyed a solid start to the Betta Electrical 500 as both cars finished in the top dozen during today's two practice sessions for round nine of the 2003 V8 Supercar Championship Series at Sandown Raceway
(Melbourne).
The Gold Coast team showed great speed with the Johnson/Luff Falcon rocketing up the time sheets to be eighth fastest overall.
Steve Johnson capped that competitiveness with a final quick time in the last laps of the second session.
Piloted by Max Wilson, the number 18 Falcon was among the front-runners for the first of today's practice sessions, finishing fourth overall.
Wilson and his co-driver, David Brabham, brought their car in 12th fastest for the combined results of the two sessions.
"I'm stoked. The car feels really good," Steve Johnson said.
"We still have a little bit of ground to make up, but we're certainly moving in the right direction."
"It's an extremely competitive field; the top 23 cars are separated by less than a second," Max Wilson said.
"We've been working on the development of the car, and today we can really see just how close things are out there, and where we fit in."
Sunday's ninth round of the 2003 V8 Supercar Championship Series will be contested over a 500km endurance race format.
