Dot-com company set to back JFR
2/3/2000 14:44 (Jason Whittaker) - The dot-com sponsorship of international motorsport continues to grow, with popular V8 Supercar racer John Faulkner set to announce a major new Internet-based sponsor.
Speaking in Melbourne yesterday on Channel 31's weekly motorsport tonight show 'In Pit Lane,' Faulkner told viewers that he was about to announce one of Australia's top Internet service providers as his major sponsor for the rest of the Shell Championship Series.
"I'm super happy that we have put to bed a major sponsor," Faulkner said. "I can't say exactly who it is just yet but it is one of the country's major Internet service providers."
Faulkner said the new sponsor would mean a whole new look for his team "new look car, transporter and team uniform - a whole new look and a whole new attitude"
Faulkner's current sponsorship which raises valuable funds for the Make-A-Wish foundation will continue alongside the new arrangement.
"The Make a Wish foundation are a great bunch of guys" said John. "I get some fantastic e-mail from some very lovely people (about the scheme) "It's a joy to come to the workshop."
The scheme allows race fans to have their names put onto John's race car and transporter for $50 with 10% of all monies raised going to Make-A-Wish to support their work in providing services for young people suffering terminal illnesses.
The team is hoping to raise around $250,000 for the charity. "Each wish costs on average about $7000" Faulkner said. " If we can get support, hopefully it will flow on."
According to Faulkner the idea for the scheme came "on a Harley trip to Tamworth"
"We wondered what the car might look like with all those signatures on it and we took it from there"
An announcement as to the identity of the mystery IT backer will be announced in the next few weeks.
