KELLY: Kelly wants to win at Mallala

28/8/2003 14:56 (Press Release) - Despite the championship being sealed Owen Kelly is determined to cap off
the year for the Smith's Trucks Racing Team with a win in round six.

Kelly currently sits fourth in the championship but heads west in easy reach of third with the possibility, and determination, to take second place for the
season.

"Mallala is a track at which I've had some previous success," explained
Kelly in reference to his second place for the round in season 2001, "but in
many ways it's just another track.

Our car should go well there, Mallala is one of the shortest circuits we race at and contains a mix of very tight corners and some faster bits: it's the sort of combination that our car has proved to be very competitive at all year.

"With some top overall standings still up for grabs my focus is on one race
at a time, hopefully picking up the wins, and seeing how we end up at the
end of the day."

Team manager Ryan McLeod added, "The car has had its scheduled servicing and
preparation regime to give Owen a good consistent car. Car speed hasn't been
a problem this year, and in fact we hit upon some factors that really gave
us some pace at Winton (the previous round). There's every reason to believe
our car will again be of one the top contenders this round."

Mallala Motorsport Park is located 55kms north of Adelaide. There
are eight corners packed into its compact layout of 2.6kms, and with a list of 27 entries this round is set to be an exciting finale to the season.

The final round will not be the final outing for this Victorian privateer
team, two of the biggest motor races in Australia are next on their agenda:
the Betta Electrical 500, at Sandown International Raceway, and the Bob Jane
T-Marts 1000, at Mt Panorama Bathurst.
