News:

National Capital 100 is now the GMC 400

22/2/2000 21:00 (Shane Rogers) - Organisers of the new Canberra street race in June formely known as the National Capital 100, have announced a major sponsor Global Machinery Company to sponsor the newly named GMC 400. The change from 100 to 400 reflects the distance of the event, rather than the number of laps.

Confusion has reigned over the last few weeks over the number at the end of the race title, some fans thinking the event was only 100km, and couldn’t understand all the fuss. The opportunity was taken at the announcement of the new sponsor, to alleviate the confusion.

GMC is a company involved in the do-it-yourself market, distributing products to Bunnings, Home Hardware, and fellow V8Supercar sponsor Mitre 10.

The new event features three races over the race weekend, with a 25-lap, 100-kilometre race, following by another 25-lap race, with the grid order reversed from the race one result, a first for V8Supercar racing. Race three will be a 50-lap, 200-kilometre race, with a compulsory pit stop.

Plenty of incentive is offered for V8Supercar drivers to perform well at Canberra, with races one and two carrying an equal points weight to the Phillip Island heats, and race three worth double race points when compared with Phillip Island.
