R2 S'OUT – HRT snare front row

13/4/2003 13:27 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - The new-look Holden Racing Team has claimed the front of the grid for the first time, as Mark Skaife defended his provisional pole position in this morning’s Top Ten Shootout.

Skaife clocked a one-minute 33.59sec hot lap, slightly faster than his qualifying time yesterday, to edge out teammate Todd Kelly by 0.3secs.

Skaife said his 30th pole position means little with a marathon 300km race ahead, but it was nice to be at the front.

Marcos Ambrose was bumped to third, losing his provisional front row position.

Team Brock’s Jason Bright will share the second row, ahead of Holden stable-mate Greg Murphy in fifth.

Ford Performance Racing spearhead Craig Lowndes lost a position in sixth, one ahead of John Bowe in the third of the shootout’s BA Falcons.

Steven Richards, Paul Weel and Garth Tander made no impression on the first few rows with untidy laps.

The race starts at 2pm.
