Radisich, Canto a Betta combination: Briggs

5/2/2003 14:09 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Paul Radisich will drive for Briggs Motorsport this season, the team officially confirmed today.

The former Dick Johnson Racing driver will partner Dean Canto in the Brisbane-based team’s twin Betta Electrical Falcons.

His replacement at DJR has not been named, though a straight swap for Brazilian ace Max Wilson is all but confirmed.

New Zealand-born Radisich, a three-time winner on the championship circuit during his four years with Johnson, said he seriously considered two other offers, believed to include 00 Motorsport and Garry Rogers Motorsport, before deciding on Briggs.

“Taking all factors into account and after careful consideration, I just could not pass up the opportunity of the Team Betta Electrical race package,” the 40-year-old said.

“I’m very pleased with the Briggs Motorsport operation, and the team members that form an integral part of its success. I feel the team at Briggs Motorsport, supported by an enthusiastic sponsor such as Betta Electrical, definitely offers me the best opportunity to perform in this season’s series.”

Johnson has not commented publicly on the split, but the partnership endured a nightmarish season year last.

The car was a dog, but Radisich could offer few excuses for finishing 26th in the series standings, 12 rungs lower than teammate Steven Johnson.

Team boss John Briggs is promising Radisich maximum support.

“With the enthusiastic, experienced team of specialist technicians behind him, this team will give him possibly the greatest opportunity in recent years to excel in a category of motorsport that means so much to him,” he said.

“We know we can provide Paul with a new, well prepared BA Falcon V8 Supercar.”

Radisich will pilot the No. 65 Betta Electrical Falcon, Canto in the No. 66 mount.

“Betta Electrical has been very supportive of my appointment,” Radisich said, “and together we look forward to a great year of motor racing along with some very sound results for the team.”
