Ritter hot property after cutting DJR ties

28/11/2002 16:15 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Super-sub Greg Ritter, benched by Dick Johnson Racing for most of the season, has his eye on a more permanent position on the V8 Supercar grid next year.

The impressive 29-year-old will be closely considered by a number of teams after being released from his contract with the struggling Shell-backed operation.

With Steven Johnson and Paul Radisich confirmed starters for the team next season, and new franchise rules restricting teams to two cars, Ritter faced another year behind the pit wall until the endurance events.

A “reluctant” DJR general manager, Steve Chalker said Ritter had been released to allow him the best chance of securing a fulltime drive – yet negotiations are continuing to secure his services for next year’s enduros.

"Greg has been a valuable asset to DJR in 2002 and we were very impressed with his performance, especially at Bathurst,” Chalker said.

Ritter could come into consideration at Briggs Motorsport, which is yet to re-sign any of its drivers for next season. 00 Motorsport is another option, but its one vacant seat is expected to go to the more experienced David Besnard.
