Betta support for Ultimate season finale
5/11/2002 13:39 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) -
V8 Supercar racing’s Grand Final has a new name – the Betta Electrical V8 Ultimate.
The national franchise chain signed on yesterday as naming-rights sponsor of the event, the final round of the championship at Melbourne’s Sandown Raceway.
In their first year of sponsoring twin Briggs Motorsport Falcons, Betta Stores Limited boss Guy Houghton said the company was proud to be a major sponsor of the V8 Supercar phenomenon.
“The decision to take up the title sponsorship for this, the last event of the 2002 season will round off our first year’s involvement as a major team sponsor in the V8 Supercar series, offering BSL maximum exposure during the event as well as affording our 400 strong retail outlets to join in with both promotional and marketing initiatives,” Mr Houghton said.
In its second year, the event will again fail to deliver on its promise: to decide the V8 Supercar champion. But Mark Skaife’s victory parade should feature a battle for runner-up, with five drivers still in contention.
Won last year by Todd Kelly in atrocious conditions, the Sandown round will be decided over a marathon 300km race on Sunday – the longest single-driver event in the history of the series. A 150km qualifying sprint will be held on Saturday.
