Super-sub Ritter fed to Briggs' CAT

24/10/2002 14:02 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Dick Johnson Racing super-sub Greg Ritter will drive at this weekend’s Gold Coast Indy round for cross-town rivals, Briggs Motorsport.

At the request of Ford Racing, the DJR-contracted driver has been loaned to the Briggs stable to campaign the team’s vacant Caterpillar-sponsored Falcon.

The drive is a one-off at this stage, though Dick Johnson has no immediate plans for the 29-year-old.

"I really have to thank Dick and the Shell team for giving me this opportunity," Ritter said.

"Dick gave me my first big break with a top team in V8 Supercars and he has been very generous in allowing me to do these events for a rival team. I must also thank Ford, whose support has created this opportunity."

Johnson said he loaned his protégé in the spirit of cooperation.

"It's important that the Ford teams work together and I think there's value for everyone in giving him this additional opportunity," he said.

Ritter’s stocks have soared since his stirring drive at Bathurst, out-qualifying and out-racing the team’s lead car of championship campaigners Paul Radisich and Steven Johnson. He made a similar impression at Bathurst last year, finishing fourth.
