Wills to show his true colours at Bathurst
29/8/2002 10:24 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) -
Exiled Briggs Motorsport racer Simon Wills has secured drives in both the Queensland 500 and Bathurst 1000.
The Kiwi, who walked away from the Briggs stable after a dispute with team owner John Briggs, today announced his signing to Team Kiwi Racing, sharing the team’s all-black Commodore with compatriot Jason Richards on Mount Panorama.
Wills, 25, was confirmed as a Queensland 500 partner for David Besnard at Stone Brothers Racing last week.
Team Kiwi owner David John said Bathurst would be a showcase of New Zealand’s top young motorsport talent.
"We are pleased Simon has chosen to drive with Team Kiwi Racing at Bathurst this year and believe the attributes each driver brings to the team will give us our best opportunity yet," John said.
Wills broke the Bathurst lap record last year in an impressive display for Briggs alongside John Bowe.
Two-time Bathurst starter Angus Fogg and John McIntyre will compete for a Queensland 500 seat alongside Richards at a test session next Tuesday.
“Fogg drove with Richards last year at the QLD 500 were they finished 13th [and] McIntyre is one of our development drivers who won the last Liquor King 500, which is New Zealand's premier endurance race for Team Kiwi Racing,” John told Conrod.com.au.
