Bates bolsters 'solid' double-zero assault

8/8/2002 21:35 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Ford spearhead 00 Motorsport has announced its endurance squad, with rally ace Neal Bates joining the team to partner Rodney Forbes.

Craig Lowndes and Neil Crompton will again unite for the team’s top-line assault on the two endurance events, the VIP Petfoods Queensland 500 and Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 at Bathurst.

00 Motorsport Team Manager, Alan Heaphy said it was a solid line-up.

"The level of experience that Neal Bates brings to the team is sure to be a benefit to the whole team and when you consider that the other three drivers have had regular drives in the series this year, we're looking forward to good results in both endurance events,” Heaphy said.

"All four of our drivers have both Bathurst and Queensland 500 experience under their belts and after coming so close to victory with Lowndes and Crompton on the Mountain [Bathurst] last year, the whole team's determined to make this year the one to remember."

Bates, 37, a three-time Australian rally champion, has been a sought-after V8 Supercar endurance sub over the years, most recently with then Ford Tickford Racing in 2000.
