Cochrane's V8 Supercar reign extended

12/6/2002 14:10 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - V8 Supercar boss Tony Cochrane was unanimously endorsed as Chairman of Supercar governing body AVESCO at a board meeting in Canberra on Monday.

Cochrane, the founding AVESCO Chairman since 1997, was reinstated for a new three-year term.

AVESCO Chief Executive Officer, Wayne Cattach, said Cochrane had shown great vision and leadership and contributed to the growth of the category.

"Tony has great energy and passion for the sport,” Cattach said.

“This decision by the board is a vote of confidence in Tony Cochrane's leadership and will give comfort and instil confidence to those who have invested heavily in the sport."

Cochrane’s uncompromising management style was questioned recently by some in the sport, most vocally veteran owner/driver Larry Perkins.

The maverick entertainment mogul is among Australia’s most successful promoters and a co-director of the rich Sports and Entertainment Limited (SEL) empire.

"I am delighted to be given this outstanding vote of confidence by the board,” Cochrane said.

“I look forward to an exciting future of growth for all the stakeholders involved in this great sport.”
