Battle of the wits (or lack there of)

5/6/2002 12:27 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Most people they know think that they’re crazy. But are V8 Supercar drivers any crazier than Rugby League’s hard men?

That question will be debated in Canberra tomorrow, when four V8 racers take on a pack of Canberra Raiders in a battle of sporting lunacy.

Is hurtling down Conrod Straight at 290km/hr any scarier than running headlong into a burly front-row forward? Russell Ingall, who leads the case for the V8 super-stars with Greg Murphy, Craig Lowndes and Marcos Ambrose, reckons it’s no contest.

"I think we got the raw end of the deal," he said, in a less than convincing opening argument. "I don't think anyone is crazier than us.”

There’s concern in the V8 Supercar camp, with the Raiders yet to name their full team. Caption Simon Woolford and Mark McLinden are to be joined by two surprise guests.

"We have a few tricks up our sleave and a secret weapon that we won't be unveiling until the debate," Woolford said.

The public are invited to the media stunt, to be held at the Canberra Centre at 11am.

May the best nutter win.
