Frenchman returns for Kmart endurance assault
2/6/2002 15:11 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) -
French touring car ace Yvan Muller will drive for the Kmart Racing Team in this year’s endurance races, the Queensland 500 and Bathurst 1000.
The announcement completes the Kmart endurance team, with Muller joining fellow European import Andy Priaulx and championship campaigners Greg Murphy and Todd Kelly.
32-year-old Muller, currently leading the British Touring Car Championship in a works Vauxhall, drove for the Holden Racing Team at Bathurst in 2000, finishing tenth with co-driver Jason Plato. He was not invited back last year.
Kmart Racing manager Rob Crawford said Muller’s experience and professionalism would be an asset to the team’s endurance campaign.
"Two years ago, Yvan drove for HRT at Bathurst and despite never having been to Mount Panorama and the race being run in the most treacherous conditions ever seen there, he brought the car home in tenth position,” Crawford said.
"He has the experience and he knows what to expect and I am confident that he and Andy [Priaulx] will be able to, firstly, assist Greg Murphy and Todd Kelly in their championship efforts, and produce results for Kmart Racing."
Muller will test with the team at Winton Raceway prior to September’s Queensland 500.
