Luff 'overwhelmed' by Lansvale call-up

27/5/2002 13:04 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Exciting racing all-rounder, Warren Luff will partner Cameron McConville in the Lansvale Racing Commodore at Bathurst and the Queensland 500.

The 26-year-old completes the Sydney-based team’s endurance line-up, with veteran owner/drivers Steve Reed and Trevor Ashby to share the other car.

Luff has just one V8 Supercar start to his name, the 1999 Queensland 500, but a diverse racing background – including Formula Ford, Supertrucks, GT-Production, Super Touring and Porsche Cup – and an impressive test with the team secured him the drive.

"I am very excited and overwhelmed as it has been a lifelong ambition of mine to race at Bathurst in a V8 Supercar,” said Luff, currently leading the V8 BRutes series.

“The Lansvale Racing Team has come such a long way over the past couple of seasons with Cameron McConville's strong results and I am confident that we can be a strong combination at these two important races.”

Mount Panorama won’t be a new experience for Luff. He’s competed in the Suzuki GTi Cup, Mitsubishi Mirage series, GTP 2-hour showdown and both 1000km Super Touring races at the famed circuit.

He’s also raced in New Zealand, Malaysia and Europe, including a class pole position at the 1997 Nurburgring 24-hour classic.

Luff first tested with the team two years ago, and has been watched closely by Ashby and Reed since.

"We were impressed back then with his talent behind the wheel,” Ashby said. “His latest efforts behind the wheel of our VX Commodore were also impressive."

Ashby said the team was pleased with Luff’s consistency, competitiveness and, “respect for the equipment that he is racing with.”
