Romano's fine reduced, but ruling stands
24/5/2002 23:06 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) -
Paul Romano has had his $20,000 fine for maliciously running into Rodney Forbes at Phillip Island reduced by $5000 after an appeal.
Romano’s appeal against the unprecedented penalty was dismissed by the V8 Supercar National Court of Appeal on Tuesday, but one of three breaches, “conduct prejudicial”, was amended and the $10,000 fine halved. The 150-point deduction remains.
Romano Racing also received a $2000 fine for breaching the sport’s testing rules, after the team failed to notify officials before testing at Queensland Raceway on May 7.
CAMS collected almost $4000 in fines from last weekend’s Hidden Valley meeting.
Four drivers were fined for exceeding the pitlane speed limit, including Mark Skaife who copped a $300 penalty, while another eight were fined $250 for arriving late to the pre-race drivers’ briefing.
Kmart Racing received a $500 bill after they were found to have not activated their speed limiters at all times in pitlane.
In matters carried over, OzEmail Racing were fined $500 for Kim Jones’ absence from the team managers’ briefing at Eastern Creek.
