18/5/2002 12:13 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - New Zealand driver and two-time Bathurst starter, Ashley Stichbury has died.

Sitchbury died suddenly from a brain haemorrhage yesterday after two days on life support. He was 30.

Stichbury drove at last year’s Bathurst classic with Paul Morris, finishing 12th.

He was to compete in this year’s Konica V8 Supercar Series with the Morris outfit, in preparation for the endurance races, but a funding fallout ended the campaign.

The Auckland-based driver was rated as one of New Zealand’s most promising talents after winning consecutive national formula ford titles in 1993 and 1994. He went on to win the TraNZam crown and last year’s New Zealand V8 touring car championship.

Stichbury is survived by his wife, Anna, and eight-month-old son, Zac.
