Tander's one-lap wonder an 'over compensation'

Garth Tander’s impressive start to the season looks decidedly less impressive today after a CAMS investigatory tribunal found his second-place finish in the first leg of the Clipsal 500 was illegitimate.
An out-of-position Tander found himself trapped behind the safety car during the race, and was subsequently compensated one lap.
After a prolonged eight-week investigation, the tribunal delivered its findings on Thursday night: while Tander was incorrectly held behind the safety car, awarding him a lap on the rest of the field was an “over compensation.”
Instead, only the effective time of half a lap was deemed suitable, pushing Tander back to sixth in the race results.
The decision comes with an 80-point reduction, relegating him from third to seventh in the championship standings.
Tander can appeal the decision.
Stewards penalties for last week’s Konica Series meeting at Phillip Island have also been released.
Kevin Mundy received the harshest penalty: a $2500 fine for losing control of his Falcon while carrying a passenger.
Wesley May copped a $500 fine for passing under a yellow flag, while Terry Wyhoon and Craig Bastian received a $200 and $300 fine respectively for exceeding the pitlane speed limit.
