Smash repair boys predict best season yet

23/2/2002 1:09 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Lansvale Racing Team announced a glut of new sponsors and revealed a new-look Commodore for their 2002 campaign at a launch in Sydney on Thursday night.

The ‘privateer’ pacesetters, Sydney’s lone challenger on the V8 Supercar circuit led by inseparable business/racing partners Steve Reed and Trevor Ashby, are throwing their full support behind young Victorian Cameron McConville this season in a persistent quest to keep the front-runners honest.

Three new sponsors have come on board for 2002 – Rexel Electrical Products, Schneider Electric and Fuchs Lubricants – displayed prominently down the side of a meaner-looking red, yellow and blue VX Commodore.

Not only does it look better, McConville believes development work under the bonnet over summer will also make it faster.

"The team has worked hard throughout the off-season to continue developing our VX Commodores and I am looking forward to racing strongly this season,” 28-year-old McConville said.

”It is going to be a very tough season and if we can race within the top twelve to fifteen on a consistent basis, better results will follow.”

Ashby and Reed will sit out the majority of the season, returning to the drivers' seat for the endurance races later in the year.

An endurance partner for McConville has not been named.
