Backwards design, forward thinking at OzEmail

There’s a parallel universe in existence at the OzEmail Racing workshop in Albury.

It's black and white... OzEmail Racing's inverted livery scheme is believed to be a first for V8 Supercar racing in Australia

First, it was the driver’s initials: Brad Jones, BJ, and John Bowe, JB. Now it’s the paintwork, too, a unique inverted livery scheme that the team believes will make the OzEmail AU Falcons stand out from the rest in season 2002.
“We were always going to run both cars in the same livery to make sure that we didn’t have to carry two sets of bumpers and panels in the transporter,” Jones said at today’s season launch in Sydney.
“But when OzEmail suggested the two colours and we played around with some concepts, we haven’t looked back. I am ecstatic with the finished result.”
Jones will carry the traditional green and white livery while the team’s new recruit, John Bowe, will fly the OzEmail colours with a new, predominantly black design – a complete reverse of Jones’ car.
“Both OzEmail and Ford Racing are providing the additional funding for us to field two cars and the very least we can do in return is have added prominence on the race track,” Jones added.
“I think the two colours also say something about the culture of OzEmail Racing in 2002. Whilst we are a team, JB (Bowe) and myself are both as hungry as we have ever been to win races, as individuals.”
Bowe is a fan of the new design, and highlighted the marketing opportunities it would afford the team.
“There’s no doubt that having a black and white car will set us apart from other two-car teams and, just as importantly, it allows us to capitalise in other areas such as merchandise,” he said.
The 2002 merchandise range was launched today, with signature Jones and Bowe lines.
