K-Mart Racing, founded on last year's Bathurst-winning Gibson Motorsport operation, has officially announced it's plans for an assault on this year's Shell Championship Series, in an impressive media launch in Melbourne last Thursday evening.
The team unveiled its two new-look VT Commodores at the launch, decked-out in the red, white and blue colours of new principal sponsor, retailing giant K-Mart Australia.
Castrol Australia will fill much of the void left by rival oil company Wynn's, who withdrew their support from the team late last year. The K-Mart/Castrol partnership will be seen as a force both on the track, and in the business world.
After the shock retirement of Australian touring car stalwart, and team owner/manager/mentor, Fred Gibson, business entrepreneur Gary Dumbrell has taken the reigns of the Melbourne-based Racing outfit, and will lead the team into the century.
Gibson will remain with the team he has nurtured since day-one, as a consultant.
Last year's FAI 1000 victors, talented Kiwi youngsters Steven Richards and Greg Murphy, will again spearhead the operation's assault on this year's Shell Series Championship.
Speaking at the launch, new team owner Gary Dumbrell spoke of his excitment of the coming season, and of the new motorsport partnership between Gibson Racing and K-Mart.
"We will also be fielding cars in Formula Ford, Formula Holden and GT Production categories, so hopefully come years end, the Kmart Racing Team will have collected a cabinet of trophies," new team owner Gary Dumbrell said.
Garry's son, Paul Dumbrell, was also announced as a member of Gibson Motorsport's 2000 squad, and will pilot a Gibson/K-Mart Formula Holden in this year's Australian Driver's Championship.
