"Psst"....V8 Gossip
28/1/2000 12:37 (Jason Whittaker) - From new-looks, to a new points structure, to noteable depatures, and to new beginnings - we sift through all the V8 Gossip for this week.
**The controversial Shell Series points system is set to be scrapped after a complete review of the points structure was undertaken by AVESCO recently. Among the changes, points will only be awarded to the top 20 placegetters, with first place receiving ten points less than in previous years. Despite widespread criticism by V8 drivers, winners of the four endurance events (Adelaide 500, National Capital 100, Queensland 500 and Bathurst 1000) will continue to receive double points.
**Hot on the heels of "that other" Factory team, Ford-Tickford Racing will unveil brand-new livery for it's two AU Falcons within the next few weeks. Meanwhile, long-time Team Manger for Glenn Seton, and last year FTR, Tony Murphy, has quit the Ford Factory outfit after just one year at the helm.
**Veteran V8 racers Trevor Ashby and Steve Reed will have the chance to compete against each other on the same track this year, with the privateer team announcing it will expand to a two-car operation this year. Depending on the teams financial situation, expect to see both Ashby and Reed each behind the wheel of a VT Commodore by mid-season.
**Being a V8 Supercar fan could soon prove to be financially rewarding! Auto Action has this week reported the possibility of the V8 Supercar category being floated on the Australian Stock Market. Fans of the sport could get the chance to invest in the sport if AVESCO goes ahead with plans to float the organisation on the Australian Stock Exchange, this year. The idea has worked successfully for a number of sports, including the CART World Series in America.
