Larkham steels new sponsor for 2002

27/11/2001 13:15 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Mark Larkham’s V8 Supercar campaign is back on track after securing a major sponsor for next season.

The battling Queenslander announced a new multi-year deal with Orccon, Australia’s leading steel tube manufacturer, over the weekend.

Larkham’s Falcon will carry Orrcon signage from next year’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

“There are many synergies between our companies that will underpin a very healthy, and I believe, lengthy relationship,” said Larkham, whose career looked stalled when a major sponsorship deal collapsed earlier this year.

”Importantly, there is a great fit between Orrcon’s customers and ours, which will ensure plenty of leveraging opportunities for Orrcon. And for us, well, we can enjoy a strategic and well-planned approach to our race program,” he said.

Larkham made similar statements on signing the doomed sponsorship deal with equally-unknown ICS earlier in the year, but Orrcon Managing Director Silvio Pradelle insists he can put the money where his mouth is.

“The foundation for a strong bond between the two organisations is now set and we look forward to a prosperous and rewarding future with the team,” Mr Pradella said.

Mr Pradella said the Adelaide and Brisbane-based company’s first foray into motorsport sponsorship would be a “win-win” for both parties.

The team’s immediate plans are to have one Falcon on the grid next year, though a second mount is being considered.
