Larkham stripped of win
10/11/2001 17:30 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) -
Mark Larkham has been stripped of his win in today’s opening V8 International race at Pukekohe, promoting Kiwi Greg Murphy to the top of the dais.
The controversial race was decided in the stewards room, with a K-Mart Racing Team protest upheld.
Larkham was declared the winner of the race despite finishing against the wall.
Stewards took the results from the previous complete lap, though Murphy successfully argued Larkham was not leading the race on the last full lap (lap 31).
Adjusted results leave Marcos Ambrose in second, ahead of Mark Skaife. Team Kiwi Racing’s Jason Richards improves to fourth.
Team reactions, and an official stewards report, to follow later tonight.
