Bathurst's No-name V8 1000
2/10/2001 21:15 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) -
An announcement has finally been made on a naming-rights sponsor for this weekend’s Bathurst carnival – there isn’t one.
The V8 Supercar 1000 will proceed without a principal backer, event organisers IMG announced today.
A number of potential sponsors bid for the honour, according to IMG, but organisers decided the race would be better served without a corporate partner this year.
"At the end of the day our first and most important priority remains with preserving the integrity of Australia's most coveted motor race and our decision to proceed without a naming-rights sponsor is a reflection of this," IMG Managing Director, Martin Jolly, said.
Mr Jolly insisted the event’s image would not be denigrated by the decision to proceed sponsor-less, and existing major sponsors would ensure a viable and successful event.
Last year's naming-rights sponsor, FAI, withdrew their support earlier this year following the collapse of parent company, HIH.
