Jones leaves nothing to chance
24/9/2001 14:10 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) -
Brad Jones is leaving nothing to chance at Bathurst, searching for a back-up driver should the impending American retaliatory strikes ground British-based co-driver John Cleland.
Cleland is set to share driving duties with Jones in the OzEmail Falcon at next month’s V8 Supercar 1000 at Bathurst, but the team is concerned Cleland may find it difficult to get a flight into Australia should global tensions escalate.
It’s promoted Jones to approach a number of drivers who could fill the Scot’s shoes if the need arises.
The team hopes to have a driver on stand-by within days.
“Obviously our first choice will be John but this race is too important to gamble on any part of our preparation,” Team Manager Kim Jones said.
