Prancing Horse delays Shell Series debut

20/8/2001 23:14 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Prancing Horse Racing has withdrawn for this weekend’s VIP Petfoods Queensland 500, citing a lack of testing time and slow delivery of required parts.

The team’s spearhead, Mark Noske is also under an injury cloud after fracturing his arm at April’s GMC 400.

Noske withdrew from the Mallala Konica Series meeting earlier this month, the team’s first V8 Supercar hit-out, when the injury flared during the pre-race warm-up.

Since then, the team has been restricted to their Melbourne workshop preparing the car, a recently-completed AU Falcon.

Without any testing miles, and facing the daunting task of pre-qualifying in Queensland, they’ve elected to delay their Shell Series debut – possibly until Bathurst.

"I was quite comfortable behind the wheel of the Ferrari at Eastern Creek last weekend," Noske explained, "but there’s a lot of difference between a few laps in the 360 (Ferrari) and an endurance race in a V8 Supercar.

"I’m certainly disappointed, for the team as much as myself, but I guess it’s better to be safe than sorry."

New Zealander Craig Baird was to drive with Noske this weekend, but has since been nabbed by John Faulkner to co-drive his Commodore.
