Gardner on V8 (un)wanted list

17/7/2001 16:45 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - World Motorcycle champion Wayne Gardner today declared himself an unlikely starter in this year’s V8 Supercar endurance events after failing to find a compatible team.

Gardner said it was “quite possible” he won’t drive at the Queensland 500 and Bathurst 1000 because nobody had made the former V8 Supercar ace an attractive enough offer, and those that had were asking for sponsorship money to be brought to the table.

“I feel that I've earned a drive at Bathurst without having to pay and therefore will sit it out a year if I have to,” Gardner wrote in his newsletter.

Gardner said he was still hopeful a competitive drive would become available.
