Perkins confirms enduro line-up

17/7/2001 16:41 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Larry Perkins has confirmed Adam Macrow and Luke Youlden as pilots for the second Castrol Commodore at this year’s endurance events.

23-year-old Youlden and 21-year-old Macrow, both with V8 Supercar experience under their belts, compliment the lead pairing of Perkins and Russell Ingall, the team owner/driver said.

“As opposed to last year where we had two new drivers in the second car, this year I wanted more of a clear-cut lead and second driver combination with experience of the race, while still retaining the young driver theme,” Perkins said.

“Luke drove for our team last year and I am very pleased to have re-signed him for this year’s races. He is a very cautious driver who did all things correctly from a team manager’s point of view at Bathurst last year in what were very, very difficult circumstances.

"I particularly like the way that Adam conducts himself and, as he's made no secret about the level of enthusiasm he has for the drive, I decided that the least I could do is give him the opportunity to become part of our Bathurst team.”

Youlden, a former Formula Ford champion, described his second Castrol Perkins call-up as, “absolutely unbelievable.”

"I feel more excited than I did last year, to be honest and I feel that I can give this year's shot a bit more of a go,” he said. “Now that the first year is under the belt, I think that this time we can have a serious shot at a legitimate top ten finish.”

Macrow, who has previously raced for John Faulkner and Tony Longhurst at Bathurst, will make his fourth Mt. Panorama start.

"The Castrol Perkins drive is a perfect opportunity to prove myself in obviously one of the best cars out there and I couldn't ask for a better team as it's certainly a level beyond my previous experiences,” he said.

"With three previous years’ experience, I feel confident in my ability to drive a V8 Supercar competitively and I'm looking forward to proving my worth."

Youlden drove with Formula Holden competitor Christian Murchison in last year’s endurance events.
