McDougall out for Barbagallo match

20/6/2001 17:07 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Dugal McDougall’s Pepsi Racing team, still recovering from injuries sustained in Canberra last week, has withdrawn from this weekend’s Shell Series round at Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway.

The Commodore campaigners opted out of the trip west after it become apparent the long list of repairs needed after abruising Canberra round could not be achieved in time.

"We knew before we left Canberra that we would struggle to repair the car and have it loaded on the truck for WA by Sunday," a dejected McDougall said.

Damage to the Pepsi Commodore was greater than first thought, including bent rear quarter panels, bumper, front guards, air dam and doors.

"However, it was the need for extensive repairs to the left front section of the roll cage that was the most difficult part to complete in time,” McDougall said.

“The WA round is expensive and without the time to ensure the car is spot-on, the sensible thing to do is stay home and revamp it where necessary.”

McDougall will return to the Shell Series circuit at the next round at Melbourne’s Calder Park Raceway – test track for the Pepsi team.
