Johnson V Brock in WA match-race

19/6/2001 21:14 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Old rivalries will be reignited at Barbagallo Raceway this weekend when touring car legends Dick Johnson and Peter Brock resume hostilities.

West Australians will be treated to a match-race between the retired champions on both Saturday and Sunday over three laps of the 2.4km Barbagallo circuit – Johnson in a Falcon GTHO Phase Three and Brock in a Torana XU-1.

Johnson, who bid farewell to the sport that made him a household name in 1999, insisted the race was not a comeback, only a one-off chance to get square with his long-time sparring partner.

"The first thing I had to do was ask them for my license back," 56-year-old Johnson quipped.

"Actually, it should be very interesting because I love the track and I've always gone well there, so it'll be a bit of fun. I'll bet Brock's already out practising!"

Both WA-owned cars are regulars on the historic racing scene in the West.
