R5S PENALTIES - Speed limiters fail to slow some

14/6/2001 23:36 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Despite mandatory pitlane speed limiters being implemented for the first time in Canberra, CAMS’ radar gun caught its fair share of victims last weekend.

Rodney Forbes and Steve Reed received $200 and $300 fines respectively for exceeding the new 40kph pitlane limit on Saturday.

Brad Jones and Paul Weel were also found exceeding the pitlane speed limit, during race three on Sunday. Both had 29-seconds added to their total race time post-race after being found guilty.

Meanwhile, Mark Skaife fell foul of officialdom on two separate occasions for pitlane violations on Saturday. The Holden Racing Team ace received a “severe reprimand” for rejoining the ‘fast lane’ incorrectly on exiting his pit bay, and a “warning” after crossing the yellow line at the exit to pitlane.

Cameron McLean’s Paragon Motorsport outfit was dealt a $250 fine for their failure to carry the correct on-board tools to remove the front spoiler.

And seven drivers had to make unscheduled visits to pitlane over the weekend to perform stop/go penalties for various offences. Paul Morris had the misfortune three times during races two and three on Sunday.
