Master and apprentice team up for CAT Racing

7/6/2001 19:19 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Masterful V8 Supercar stalwart John Bowe will team with young apprentice Simon Wills for this year’s endurance races.

24-year-old Wills – a twice Australian Drivers Champion and front-runner in this year’s Konica Series – will partner Bowe in the CAT Racing Falcon at the Queensland 500 and Bathurst 1000.

“I am confident we will be a very strong combination,” Bowe enthused.

"At Bathurst these days you need two drivers with regular V8 Supercar experience. With Simon doing the Konica Series, he has plenty of laps under his belt in these cars."

Bowe had been partnered with veteran Jim Richards in recent years, but Richards’ signing to Ford-Tickford Racing earlier this year had CAT Racing Team Principal John Briggs pursuing Wills’ services.

After testing with the Queensland-based outfit recently, Wills is confident of endurance success with Bowe.

"I am really thrilled with this chance because from what I have seen, Briggs Motorsport is leaving no stone unturned for the endurance races this year," he said.

"This is a great opportunity for me. It is not every day you get the chance to drive with somebody so experienced and fast as John Bowe."

Wills drove for Stone Brothers Racing last year, finishing seventh at Bathurst with Craig Baird.
