Canto joins FTR for endurance assault
4/6/2001 15:49 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) -
2000 Konica Series champion Dean Canto has been added to Ford-Tickford Racing’s endurance squad.
The 20-year-old joins regular Shell Series campaigners Glenn Seton and Steven Richards, and recently-announced fellow enduro import Jim Richards, for this year’s two endurance tests – the Queensland 500 and Bathurst 1000.
Canto drove for the team at last year’s Queensland 500, and was a candidate for the full-time seat vacated by Neil Crompton last year.
Canto said he was keen to learn all he could from a driving squad with eight Bathurst crowns and 48 starts under its belt.
"FTR want to win those races and they have the machinery and personnel to back that up,” he said.
"I'm keen to show my strengths in this category of racing and I'm very confident of being a strong member of the team.”
Said FTR owner/driver Glenn Seton: "Dean is very much part of the next crop of top-line drivers. He's had two Queensland and Bathurst starts in a V8, so he's got experience beyond his years.
"It's good to have all our drivers set, and we can now use both Jim and Dean at testing to work towards the best combinations at the enduro events.”
No announcement has been made as to driver pairings for the two events.
Canto will continue running his RPM International Falcon in the Shell Series while preparing for the Ford-Tickford endurance assault.
