Tickford program boosted by Prodrive buy-out

25/5/2001 13:51 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - European motorsport giant Prodrive’s successful acquisition of Ford’s Tickford arm could spill over onto the V8 Supercar circuit.

Prodrive, whose Ford Mondeo operation took out the trifecta in the British Touring Car Championship last year, purchased the complete 100 percent stake in Tickford earlier this week.

The deal creates a global automotive and motorsport empire worth some A$250 million.

“The Prodrive announcement means that the local Tickford joint venture with Ford and TAP will have more global resources than ever before,” Tickford Ltd. Managing Director, David Flint, said.

Mr Flint has said while direct involvement from Prodrive in V8 Supercar racing would be unlikely in the short-term, any contribution Prodrive would like to make to Ford’s Supercar squad would be encouraged.
