R4S PENALTIES - Pitlane slip-ups costly for five
15/5/2001 22:30 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) -
Five teams were sprung violating pitlane regulations as CAMS continue their crackdown on pitlane safety.
While most of the attention centred on the bizarre off-track antics of one drunken HRT crew member at Eastern Creek (the story even made the news pages of some Sunday papers), stewards also had their hands full policing pitlane.
Garth Tander, Mark Larkham, Tony Longhurst and Todd Kelly each received costly stop/go penalties over the course of the weekend for various pitlane infringements.
The crews of Paul Morris and Todd Kelly received similar reprimands for incidents in the Sunday warm-up. Their respective teams were handed $500 fines.
Mark Skaife (jumped the start in race one), Craig Lowndes and Tony Longhurst (both driving infringements) also received stop/go penalties.
Team Kiwi Racing, Toll Racing and Gibson Motorsport each received $500 fines for not having representation at the Team Manager’s briefing.
Meanwhile, John Faulkner Racing added $500 to the CAMS kitty for problems with his data logging system. The matter was adjourned from Eastern Creek.
