Simpson back in the hunt with Harris Falcon

10/5/2001 15:42 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Battle-scarred Michael Simpson has been thrown a championship lifeline by fellow Queenslander Craig Harris in the form of his Castrol AU Falcon.

Harris will loan his Konica Series ex-DJR Falcon for the next round at Phillip Island. Simpson looked a doubtful starter after a heavy shunt in his EL model Ford at the last round.

"This is a very generous offer from Craig and we cannot thank him enough," Simpson said.

"We will do everything we can to put the Castrol Ford towards the front of the pack. I would love to have a trophy to give to Craig at the end of the weekend."

Harris, who will be absent from the 'Island due to business commitments overseas, said the deal was a, "win-win for everyone."

"Michael is a good young steerer and I am confident he will bring the car back in one piece and pick up the points needed to keep himself in contention for the title," he said.

"We have a major investment in this racing program with Castrol and it is important that we maintain our profile in the championship."

Simpson's ex-Stone Brothers Falcon is in need of repairs totaling some $20,000 after the involuntry Winton Raceway tangle. It's a price the still-unsponsored Simpson simply can't afford.

The small operation hopes to catch the eye of the corproate world and have the old machine back on-track come the fifth round at Lakeside.

"We have so many good people working hard to help us make this whole operation a success and I believe we have the assets to provide great value for a naming-rights partner," Simpson said.
