R3K QUAL - Dumbrell claims maiden pole

Teenager Paul Dumbrell has claimed his maiden pole position in the Konica V8 Supercar Series in today’s round three qualifying battle.
The 18-year-old Gibson Motorsport campaigner steered his ex-Steven Richards VT Commodore to a 1:23.29 minute flier around the tight Winton Raceway layout.
Owen Kelly parked his leased John Faulkner Racing Commodore on the front row with a time three-tenths slower than Dumbrell’s.
Row two will feature championship leader Simon Wills (26 points ahead of David Parsons) and NRC Racing’s Dale Brede.
Last round winner Parsons will start from fifth, sharing the third row with Garry Rogers prodigy Leanne Ferrier.
The 55-minute session (two 25-minute sessions) was dominated by Holden, filling the first three rows of the grid. Mick Donaher was the best of the Fords, qualifying in seventh.
Queenslanders Michael Simpson and Craig Harris were ninth and tenth fastest respectively, but could benefit from the top ten reverse grid in race two. AVESCO are persisting with the controversial reverse grid format, despite strong opposition from many of the sport’s leading lights.
Race one of three begins at the rural Victorian circuit at 11:30am tomorrow morning.
