Leading names recruited for GMC 400 promotion

Four of the sport’s leading racers have been named as patrons for this year’s GMC 400 in Canberra – Mark Skaife, Steven Richards, Brad Jones and Cameron McConville.
Each ambassador will get “the nation’s heart racing” ahead of the June long-weekend event with a series of promotional activities.
Skaife, instrumental in the design of the street course, will help launch the event in New Zealand later this month. Richards (the inaugural winner last year) Jones and McConville will each make various public appearances in the lead-up to the race.
“The choices for our ambassadors were quite simple,” Canberra Tourism and Events Corporation Director of Events, Katie Reardon, said.
“Mark (Skaife) has a long history with the GMC400 and has been integral in the track design. Steve (Richards), of course, is our inaugural winner. Brad (Jones) has developed a strong affection with the Canberra public and now being based in Sydney with his new team, Cameron’s (McConville) enormous media experience will be a great asset,” she said.
