R1S PENALTIES - Besnard paroled after Bowe bingle

28/3/2001 15:34 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - David Besnard escaped the wrath of officials after his controversial altercation with John Bowe in last weekend’s season opener at Phillip Island.

Both men appeared before CAMS’ track-side tribunal to explain the race one incident, after which time stewards deemed the young Stone Brothers racer had no charge to answer.

Besnard apologised to an irate Bowe after the race.

An inquiry was also held into an altercation involving Thomas Mezera and Matthew White during race one. White was found to be at fault, and was penalised four seconds onto his total race time.

Paul Weel was relegated to the rear of grid for the first race after being forced to replace two tyres after a qualifying spin caused flatspotting.

Larry Perkins, Rodney Forbes and Anthony Tratt were all dealt stop/go penalties on Sunday after exceeding the 60km/hr pitlane speed limit.

K-Mart Racing’s Rob Crawford and Wally Storey from the Lansvale Racing Team were both fined $500 for failing to attend the Team Managers’ briefing.
