Keeping up with the Jones' tougher with new Falcon
16/3/2001 18:26 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) -
OzEmail Racing has produced its first ever Falcon, to debut at the opening round of the Shell Series at Phillip Island next week.
The car has been totally constructed and engineered within the
team’s Albury-based workshops, utilising the Jones’ (Brad and Kim) vast
experience of racing machinery.
By building the car from the
shell up, Brad Jones says the
familiarity will help the team with development – a problem which plagued Jones and his men in their rookie year.
"We aren’t talking about having it up to speed in the future, we aim to be on the pace from Phillip Island,” Jones said.
"This car is totally engineered by our team, giving us full understanding as to how we best get the most out of the Falcon at all the circuits. 2000 was a totally new ball game for us, but this season is about gaining top results," he said.
A final pre-season shakedown will be held at Winton Raceway this Tuesday, where both the new and old car will be put through their paces in comparison.
Jones’ 2000 Falcon will act as the team’s back-up car this season.
Meanwhile, accomplished communications man Dale Brittain has joined the OzEmail Racing outfit. Brittain, formerly with John Faulkner Racing, will combine the work with his marketing role with Canberra’s GMC 400.
“With the level of professionalism in V8 Supercars increasing every year, it is a credit to both Brad and Kim Jones that they place so much importance on media and sponsorship exposure,” Brittain said.
