Lowndes still sponsor-less, but looking sharp for AGP

28/2/2001 20:30 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Craig Lowndes’ much-hyped Ford mount broke cover today, in a surprising stealth-like livery.

Lowndes took the covers off his weapon for this week’s Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix support event in Melbourne this morning, adorned in a mean charcoal and silver, Ford-inspired design. Lowndes’ race suit reflects the highly unconventional Ford colours.

As for the long-awaited sponsorship announcement, today’s launch was a non-event. Lowndes will carry Ford signage only into this weekend’s non-championship showdown, while details of the team’s financiers won’t be announced until the lead-up to Phillip Island.

Said Lowndes at today’s Gibson Motorsport semi-launch; "The car looks aggressive, it looks great!"

"I’m used to racing in lighter colours, but I’ve always preferred black road cars. I can’t wait to see how it’ll look on the track tomorrow," he said.

Lowndes gets his first taste of Ford-powered competition in practice tomorrow morning, ahead of the all-important qualifying session late afternoon.
