Paul Dumbrell is gearing up for an all-out attack on this year’s Konica V8 Supercar Series, as the Gibson Motorsport outfit works towards Wakefield Park in two week’s time.

The former Formula Holden competitor will pilot Steven Richards’ Canberra round-winning 2000 mount, adorned in the colours of oil company Wynn’s. The design, similar to Rodney Forbes’ Wynn’s-backed Commodore of the past few seasons (Forbes no longer has the support of Wynn’s), was revealed today.
Dumbrell couldn’t hide his enthusiasm about working with a team that has Alan Heaphy, Craig Lowndes and Neil Crompton on the books.
“Fred (Gibson) only knows how to run a team one way, and that is in the most professional manner,” 18-year-old Dumbrell told us today.
“I am looking forward to being in a Level 1 environment and working with the whole Gibson crew. It should be a very interesting year, and one that should bring plenty of results,” he said.
Paul’s father and former Gibson chief Gary Dumbrell was instrumental in securing the Wynn’s dollars for the venture. Surprisingly, Holden will also prominently support Dumbrell’s efforts, despite Gibson’s association with Ford.
Uncertainty remains as to the make of car Dumbrell will pilot after round one of the series, something Dumbrell could not comment on today. Either way, he insists his campaign takes-in the complete Konica schedule.
Dumbrell will test with Gibson alongside Craig Lowndes at either Winton or Calder next week. The six-round Konica V8 Supercar Series gets the green light on February 24-25.
