CAMS management structure altered
29/1/2001 23:35 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - The Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) announced a structural change to its management team today, appointing a new General Manager in Simon Webb and revising the position of V8 Supercar Race Director Tim Schenken.
Irish-born Webb has been appointed to the post of General Manager of Motorsport. He joins Australian motorsport’s governing body from a strong sports management background.
With the appointment of Webb, Schenken has been alleviated from his heavy workload and reassigned to the position of Director of Racing Operations.
The new post will allow him to concentrate further on his trackside Clerk of Course responsibilities with the Australian Grand Prix, Shell Championship Series, and other events.
Said CAMS CEO Peter Hansen: “The new structure of the motorsport department is crucial to the long-term management of motorsport across Australia.”
“The growth of so many categories in recent years combined with an increased CAMS involvement at the ‘coalface’ demanded that the sporting management responsibilities should be divided in two,” he said.
