McLeod gets head-start on Konica rivals

26/1/2001 17:03 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Ryan McLeod will get a jump-start on his Konica V8 Supercar Series combatants as part of the Commodore Cup Series this weekend.

McLeod will campaign a Standox-backed JFR Commodore in the ROH Commodore Cup support event at this weekend’s Wakefield Park Super Touring meeting, in preparation for round one of the Konica Series at the same circuit next month.

With the V8 Supercars making their first visit to the south-western New South Wales circuit, McLeod sees this weekend as a major advantage to his chances come February.

"Not all the guys (in the Konica Series) have been around Wakefield Park and I'm hoping to get the jump on a few of them with a solid result in this event," McLeod said.

27-year-old McLeod, who finished fourth in last year’s inaugural Lites Series, will attempt to go three places better when the Konica Supercars get the green light at Wakefield Park on February 24-25. His 2001 campaign plans will be announced prior to the event.

Meanwhile, two people were taken to hospital and $200,000 worth of equipment destroyed when a fire guttered a small workshop at Wakefield Park between Super Touring practice sessions yesterday. Both involved escaped serious injury.
