Ellery welcomes Ford's increased commitment
26/1/2001 2:09 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Ford charger Steven Ellery has welcomed news that Ford Australia will pour more money into their V8 Supercar campaign this year.
Ford President Geoff Polites yesterday announced the car manufacturer will discontinue their multi-million dollar, naming-rights sponsorship of the Australian Open Tennis Championships, opting instead to channel the funds into their motorsport program.
Ellery, like many in the Ford camp, will benefit from the increased financial commitment, and is keen to reward the Blue Oval with race wins this season.
"We're pleased to be part of Ford's program and there's no doubt this will be an outstanding year for the manufacturer,” Ellery said.
“Last year we put winning runs on the board for Ford and we plan to capitalise on that with further success this year,” he said.
Ellery reminded all that while the conspicuous Craig Lowndes is a welcome addition to the Ford squadron, Ford’s 2001 campaign is anything but one-dimensional. It also includes Ellery’s Super Cheap Auto team, for example.
"Bringing Craig Lowndes into the Ford camp was a major coup and all the Ford teams welcomed that. But he is just one of a few that will be ensuring that Ford's commitment pays off this year," the Queenslander said.
“I'm excited by the news and it will be nice to know Ford will fight Holden for every point this season," he said.
